Church and music! These are the first two things I remember as a child. Both molded my life and inspired me to try to become a better person. I owe these beginnings to my grandmother, Juanita Tharpe. Most people called her the "Singing Grandma".

But, I called her Mama.

This album is a tribute to her. She was the inspiration and greatest influence upon my career in music. My favorite cut on this album is "Homesick for Heaven." She and I recorded it more than 40 years ago, and with today's technology, we were able to incorporate our original version with this new instrumental version. I'm still playing my music, and for the past 20 years, my good friend Carl Griffin and I have been touring with the legendary saxophonist, Ace Cannon. This album is a dream come true for me, and I pray that you will enjoy it!
